Cannon BLOG: March 2009

We decided to use a 45 degree angle for our cannon so that it would go high but not too high so we would maximize the distance. We predicted that our cannon would make a parabola and shoot as far as 5 feet.

MOTIVATION

-A time when you must obey on command or do other things as a responsibility is at work, school, or just everyday society. As a student you must obey the teachers, and perform and do the work that is asked of you. As an employee you must obey what is said by your manager or whoever is in charge of you. In everyday society you must obey what the government tells you to do, which is enforced by authority.

-Another time when people must obey is in a dictatorship where the ruler has complete control over the society and each persons daily lives and the people have no control over what actions the dictator takes.

-Military commanders has to discipline their soldiers so that they gain respect and respond in a positive manner.

-The Military must also work together. If everyone is organized and does what is asked of them, things in the military will run alot smoother.

-If the commander has no control over his troops and all organization is lost that puts more people at risk in a sense that things that need to be done wont get done.

"The Charge of the Light Brigade"

The poem "The Charge of the Light Brigade" talks about an army of 600 going into battle and they all charge through in order to fight with the presence of cannons in all directions. Smoky grounds filled around them because of the many cannons being fired. When fighting was finally to be put at rest many troops were emotionally ill because of the loss of so many soldiers.

Overture of 1812

This piece is fast-paced and keeps building upon itself to create suspense until finally cannons are shot. The beginning of the song symbolizes troops that are being sent into battle and at the end symbolizes the victory or winning of the battle.

Fort Fisher Cannons

Fort Fisher was one of the main battlefields in The Civil War. We went down to the history center in Fort Fisher to ask them a bit about the cannons. When we got there we noticed that there was a stand surrounded by gates, but the question was WHERE IS THE CANNON? We learned that the cannon that was missing originally belonged to the south but was taken by the North. The south borrowed it back as a display to visitors. It was once again taken back and is now displayed at West Point Academy in New York.
